Coco Chanel said “Everyday is a fashion show and the World is your runway”. Well sometimes I can’t function well enough to simply put one foot in front of the other, let alone dress well enough for a runway. BUT one lesson I’ve learnt along the way is that a boring outfit can be brought to life with some great accessories.
The other day, my alarm beeps, I roll over, hit snooze, hit snooze, hit snooze, hit snooze… You get where I’m going. All of a sudden I have 15 minutes to get ready and be in my car fighting the shitty Sydney peak hour traffic. With no time to think, I throw on my black leather leggings and a white button up shirt and look at my shabby self in the mirror. I mean, as you can see I don’t even have time to iron the shirt, if I’m being honest I actually didn’t even notice how badly crushed the shirt was until I looked at the photos. Whoops #blogging101.
I desperately need a quick fix to take this outfit from the “I have no clean clothes” look to “I clearly planned this” look. Just like delicious cream cheese icing hides a terrible, dry, vanilla cake. With 5 minutes and counting I grabbed the most patterned/busy shoes I could find (a lucky last minute purchase at the Senso warehouse sale), the biggest earrings I have and a crazy pair of gold, glitter, mirrored sunglasses. With one last look at myself, I run out the door.
To be fair I was still a couple of minutes late to work and when I sat down I noticed my shirt buttons were misaligned… Doh. Let’s just hope everyone was too busy looking at my earrings or my dirty hair to notice.
Today was the first day of Spring, and it was truly glorious.
After yesterdays trans seasonal dressing post, I awoke to a mildy warm morning, warm being a balmy 17 degrees. It’s funny that when we reach the beginning of Spring, a 17 degree morning is cause for dusting off your sandals. At the other end of the year, Autumn rears it’s ugly head and as soon as temps dip below 20 degrees, we’re whining that it’s cold and we’re reaching for our hoodies.
Today I left my house, jacket-less, in a thin white t-shirt and I felt free, liberated and only slightly uncomfortably cold.

Until then, tomorrow marks phase one of trans seasonal dressing.
Without really knowing if the days are going to hot, cold or lukewarm, my clothing options are without a doubt going to become slightly confused over the next few weeks. I’m talking beanies with t-shirts and coats with sandals confused. This phase is mostly spent feeling too cold to take layers off, but too warm to have any extra on.
The timing of phase two really varies depending when we have that first really unseasonably warm day. The day that causes girls everywhere to think “I could be wearing shorts today.” What happens next? A false sense of security that fools you into pulling out their denim cut offs only to spend a few extremely uncomfortable days being unnecessarily cold.
The third and final phase? That glorious day when you pull on your bikini for the first time in 9 months, dip your toes into the crystal clear ocean, only to go running and screaming away from the freezing cold torture that is the ocean in spring.
By then, the sweaty, humidity of Summer will be welcomed with open arms.
